Parental Controls #02 - OpenDNS

OpenDNS is a good option for filtering out known Domain porn sites, but it does have some limitations like for example not being able to filter out Search Engine Image site like Google's Image search, the thumbnails will still appear. However it is a good module to add as part of your family secure setup.

OpenDNS1: 208.67.222.222
OpenDNS2: 208.67.220.220.

You will probably want to use the Dynamic IP updater, and setup stats, so you can monitor what is going on in your internet connection.

1. Login to webpage www.opendns.com, go to SETTINGS Tab
2. Choose Advanced settings (Left menu), and TICK the "Dynamic IP Update", scroll down and click APPLY.
3. Choose Stats (Left menu), and TICK "Enable Stats and Logs" and click APPLY.
4. Close your Internet Browser.
5. Download: http://www.opendns.com/download/windows/
6. Install the Updater
7. Login to program with your account, and install it as a service.
8. Reboot your computer.

It's helpful to setup an account, add your IP (or else add Dynamic DNS), and then set the filtering level. I set my computer to moderate settings to filter out adult sites.

Remember this is not a complete service, in that it will not filter everything, but it will improve your safety level when browsing the internet.

Cheers, josh
